HUBUNGAN ASUPAN NATRIUM DAN KALIUM DENGAN KADAR EKSRESINYA DALAM URIN PADA ORANG DEWASA

Abstract

Abstract

Sodium and potassium are two prominent minerals that work as electrolytes to regulate the balance of body’s liquid. One of the electrolytes balanced mechanisms is carried out by the kidney. Kidney will secrete excess sodium and potassium into urine. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between sodium and potassium intake with sodium and potassium levels in urine. The research used cross sectional design. The study was conducted on two different days in the city of Bogor involving 100 male and 100 female respondents in the age group 20-49 years using a 24-hour urine sample. In adults of Bogor City, potassium intake was very significantly correlated to the 24-hours urine potassium excretion level, both on the first day (0.249 at p=0.000) and the second day observation (0.222 at p=0.001). However, the natrium intake was not significantly correlated to the 24-hours urine potassium excretion on the first day (-0.066 at p=175), but was significantly correlated inversely (-0.126 at p=0.037) on the second day. There was no correlation between the level of 24-hour urine sodium excretion and the amount of sodium intake. It is because most of it will be reabsorbed and partially excreted into urine and sweat. Level of potassium consumption has a very significant correlation as a result of metabolic processes that express potassium in a short time.
