Abstract

Abstract

To produce good radiographic images, radiographers need to set the right prime exposure factors, namely kVp, mAs, and FFD. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using focus film distance (FFD) variations of 140 cm, 160 cm, 180 cm, and 200 cm on cardiothoracic ratio (CTR) and signal to noise ratio (SNR) values on thorax radiographs.

This type of research is descriptive quantitative with experimental methods, using four FFD samples, namely 140 cm, 160 cm, 180 cm and 200 cm with a whole body phantom object. Data collection was carried out at the Radiology Laboratory of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto University in April 2024, using observation, measurement and documentation methods. The data obtained were analysed using the statistical product and service solutions (SPSS) program the Friedman statistical test method to obtain conclusions.

The results of this study are the CTR value and SNR value of posteroanterior projection (PA) thorax radiographs with FFD settings of 140 cm, 160 cm, 180 cm, and 200 cm. While for the Friedman test results, the significance value <0.05 on the CTR value and the significance value >0.05 on the SNR, so Ha is accepted on the CTR value and Ho is accepted on the SNR value. In examining thorax radiographs, it is recommended to use FFD 200 cm to produce radiographs with low magnification values and to obtain image quality with high SNR.
